Once again it is the minor leagues introducing the dog that has triggered a hot dog alert. This time, it hits the sweet spot, or maybe the sweet tooth. The Wilmington Blue Rocks are introducing the “Sweenie” dog. It is not for the weak-willed. It appeals to both of our animal instincts: sugar and bacon.
Dubbed “baseball’s sweetest weenie” (I actually thought they were talking about me), the Sweenie is a quality frank on a Krispy Kreme donut bun topped with raspberry jam and bacon. Delicious or repulsive? You decide. I intend to try one this summer.
The name Sweenie pays homage to the Blue Rocks former player who made it to the show and played for Royals, Mariners and Phillies.
Wilmington has done a bang up job or shaking up the hot dog world as to what is acceptable on a dog, and it’s “game on” for other baseball clubs to try and eclipse the Sweenie for “sweetest dog.”
